Overview

Italy is a Schengen member state. Nepali citizens require a Schengen C-type short-stay visa for tourism. Applications are submitted via VFS Global Kathmandu (Italy section), but the actual processing is done at the Italian Consulate General in Kolkata, India — not in Nepal. The visa fee of EUR 90 must be paid as an Indian Rupee Demand Draft (currently ~INR 9,170), adding logistical complexity. Total turnaround including Kolkata processing is typically 6–8 weeks.
